Dan and Craig finally meet! The pair checked out the Sand Sport Super Show, in Costa Mesa, CA over the weekend. This show as grown immensely over the last five years that Craig has been attending. One thing that hasn’t changed is the amount of money that one could spend on this hobby – the sky is the limit!
Rich got to spend some time chatting with Danelle from Midland Radios. Midland Radios is headquartered in Kansas City, MO and is well known for making the best FRS and GMRS radios on the planet. The discussion covers some great info on why we think that CBs need to be completely replaced with GMRS radios. While the GMRS license is $70, its good for ten years and covers your whole family. Rich was hooked up with the MXT275 radio. https://midlandusa.com/product/mxt275-micromobile-two-way-radio/
Dan also has an interview with Mob Armor. Mob Armor has really innovated on how to secure your mobile device while out on adventures or during your daily routine. Its been designed by offroaders, for offroaders. by keeping our specific needs in mind, Mob Armor has developed some really cool products. I’ve started using the MobNetik STK 90 and couldn’t be happier. https://mobarmor.com/mobnetic-stk-v2/

Team Overland guides outdoor adventures and hosts campouts for Veterans, Veteran Families, and Kick Ass Civilian Supporters. Team Overland is unique in that it is not exclusive to just those that served in the military. We want to have an impact on veteran reintegration and we believe that it is only possible by having an organization with Veterans and Civilians working together. At Team Overland, we value and lean on our non-military members and we noticed early on that Civilians were passionate about sharing the burden of service. We have found that our approach builds bonds between those that served and those that didn’t through the shared interest of outdoor adventure and teamwork on the trail. On the trail, we work as a team to overcome the obstacles encountered on the way to our destinations. Around camp we have a saying, “The fire facilitates” meaning we don’t provide therapy or plan any set questions for guests. We light the fire and it facilitates conversation and forms connections. From the point, we meet-up until the time we return home guests have everything they need provided for them including all meals catered and any camping gear needed. On the trip guests have the option to ride with a Team Overland Trail Guide or bring their own truck as long as it meets our minimum safety standards that we determine based on the trail difficulty.

On this episode we catch up with the guys talking about all the adventures that we’ve had over the last few weeks. Rich took off on a trip through New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada, and Utah in is Ram 1500 Rebel truck. Dan hit eight national parks and a bunch of miles while moving from Alaska to southern California. Craig is still trying to reassemble his YJ.
On this episode we try something new. I turned on Instagram for a live video while waiting for some sleeping bags to wash at the laundromat. My oldest daughter, Aubrie, joined me to talk about her experience so far. I’m not counting this as a real episode because it doesn’t cover the normal content and the audio quality isn’t really that great since its recorded on a phone camera sitting in a running vehicle. The discussion does offer a unique perspective from a kid on her thoughts on the adventure.
Let me know if you like this style of show and maybe we’ll do more like this. Or if you hate it, I’ll never do it again!

I’ve had it with the noisy and harsh riding all steel heim joint rod ends on my control arms. They have lived a good long life but now they have to go! I’m looking at the Metal Cloak Duraflex joints and the tried and true Currie Johnny Joints.
Which do you use?
Why do you like them?
How long have you used them?
How much maintenance do they need?

Dan Interviews Chris from Baja Designs. Baja Designs are the scientists of lighting and have taken their design to a whole new level. Baja Designs has been in the offroad light business for about as long as there has been an offroad business.
Chris points out that most people don’t think about the color or temperature of the light and how it effects our vision and ability to see at night. We have discussed this on the show before. You may have recognized for yourself that the more yellow, sun color light is easier on your eyes than that cool blue that you often find in lesser quality LED lights.
