On this episode of the podcast I talked with Dan Grooters from Nissan Xterra Performance. Dan grew up off roading a Ford Ranger out in the deserts of southern California. Now he’s getting ready to take on desert racing. He’s working on a Nissan Xterra to race Mint 400 this coming March. It’s great to see Nissan is back into off road racing no matter how it’s happening.
I recently learned of another offroading related podcast and I wanted to share the news with you. The Centre Steer Podcast is focused on the Land Rover brand and covers all the need related to Rovers from around the world. I had a lengthy Twitter conversation with the podcast host and in that short time I learned quite s bit about Land Rover.
For instance the name Centre Steer is actually derived from the prototype Rover. The steering mechanism was in the middle like a tractor. That design was obviously abandoned as it went to production. And the prototype was large derived from the old Willys Jeep and even shared some components.

Mountain State Overland is headquartered out of Virginia and they mainly explore in the Appalachian Mountains of the eastern United States. Mountain State Overland is very different than most other offroading outfits that you may find on the internet and around the world. A few weeks ago, Craig had the chance to go to the Lucas Oil Off Road Expo in Pomona, CA. This is an annual event that has vendors from around the US and the rest of the world. The show has gotten bigger and bigger over the last few years. It could be the biggest event of its kind outside of the offroad hall during SEMA. Tons of cool rigs to check out and great people to talk to. The Lucas Oil Off Road Expo is open to the public. If you want to get up close and personal with some the stars in the offroading world, this is the place to find them.
Bushwacker Ford F-150
Bushwacker is known for making pocket style flares that are now widely imitated. Bushwacker continues to lead the market and they have just released their rendering of the fender flares for the 2015 Ford F-150. The F-150 features lots of cool offroading gear that would work well as a chase truck for a desert racer or weekend toy but still fit in as a daily driver.

On this episode of the podcast we talk about Craig’s trip to the Sand Sport Super Show in southern California. This show is all about going fast in the desert. There were lots of sand rails, quads, and side-by-side UTVs. Of course there was also some overlanding goodness but the bulk of the show was all about speed in the sand, just as the name of the show would indicate.
I just received some gear from EnerPlex to review for The 4×4 Podcast. This video is simply an unboxing. I’ll be road testing these devices for the next few weeks and then I’ll come back and let you know what I think.

On episode 84, we chat with Frank Ledwell from OutdoorX4 magazine about his experiences with the new BFG AT KO2 tires from BFGoodrich. BFG invited some media guys down to Baja, Mexico to try out their latest tires on the most demanding terrain on the planet. BFG must be confident in the AT/KO2s to bring down some guys to through the tires down sandy washes, deep silt, rocks, mud, and everything else you can find in the desert.
