Thanks to our friends over at Blue Ridge Overland Gear for pointing out this news! While I know that this photo is a complete photoshop, I’m still pretty excited about the idea of a full size SUV with some real offroad capability.
The Grand Wagoneer was produced from 1963 till 1991 when it was replaced by my beloved “downsize” Cherokee. Previous attempts at a full-size from Jeep is the Commander, which in my opinion was a failed attempt to revive the XJ.
For the revival of the Grand Wagoneer to to be a true success here’s what I think it needs to include:
- V-8 Hemi or Cummins Turbo Diesel sourced from a Dodge Ram
- Dana 60 front and rear axles
- 4-Linked front and rear suspension
- Must seat 7 with room behind the seats
- 8 Speed automatic transmission with the ability to hold whatever gear you want
- Limited Slip or e-locker differential
- Real shifters with actual linkage to the transfer case
Now I have two questions for you:
- Do you think the Grand Wagoneer will every actually return?
- What do you think it needs to be successful?
